Funny’s Back And Her Nameth Is Kathy

Now that summer’s kicked into gear I can truly start to relax again and resume my New Year’s resolution to appreciate funny.

God bless funny.  Save  blog-gold from two of my favorite funny ladies, Wendi Aarons and Ann Imig (seriously, subscribe to their blogs — you’ll be glad you did), everything from the Broadway season (way too much dying not enough laughing) to spring movies (sorry, not one LOL at “Sex In The City 2″ or “Shrek Ever After”) to Network television events (“Lost” I’m still conflicted) it’s been a clusterF%*$K of way too much drama.

It’s my season to smile.  My teacher-hubby is home.  Paco, the house-husband daddy day care service returns, si si! Now pass me a Margarita!  For an entire two months, I don’t have to be late for oh, almost everything while running around carrying Eliza under my arm like Diane Keaton carried her kid in “Baby Boom!”   What I can do is laugh again.

Kathy Griffin and her StageMama, Maggie Griffin. Love her.

And the jump start arrived last week.  The queen of my summer fun, Kathy Griffin has returned.  She’s back on Bravo with the sixth season of “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List” my favorite reality show, oh ever, and it gives me an extra special kick of joy because my hubby can’t stand it.  And in the season premiere last week, Kathy got acting tips from the one and only Liza Minelli.  Hubby no likey Liza either.  So that made for a triple whammy of serious funny — Kathy, Liza and my cranky Hubby.  Giggle, giggle. Chortle, chortle.

And early this morning, insomnia hit around 2:00 a.m. so I pop on the tellie and watch this week’s episode where Kathy and my second favorite StageMama, Kathy’s mom Maggie, are invited to judge a kiddie beauty pageant in the suburbs of California.  Comedic mayhem ensues.  Kathy gets pageant tips from four year olds!  She walks the runway herself in hysterical outfits! Learns ”the cupcake” walk!  She spray-tans her ass crack. (C’mon.  It’s funny.)  My gut-busting laughter woke Hubby up out of a deep sleep and even after he threw a pillow at me and elbowed me in the cheek, I was still laughing.

TLC’s ”Toddlers & Tiaras” does not make me laugh.  But Kathy Griffin’s take on the pageant scene and befuddled Maggie Griffin trying to keep up with the judging is funny. Hello comic.  Meet gold.

I wish to submit a disclaimer: I do like Liza in “Cabaret” but am forever scarred by the ’90’s Liza who got that kiss from that scary husband. Oh, and see. I read your blog. Rich

Well whaddaya know? While I’m out seeing shows, hubster’s on the blog. What a guy. Hmm… I see a new NYTimes article comin’ on: “Sssh honey, don’t bother me. I’m busy reading mommy’s blog while she builds her brand.” Love you, sweetie!

  2. Marissa J says:

I so totally agree! I love Kathy!!!!!!

  3. Wendi says:

Aww, thank you for the mention. I truly appreciate it.

And I am a long-time fan of Kathy. The pageant episode was probably one of the funniest ones I’ve ever seen. Esp. when she had on the Flippers.
